My name is Nicola Bird. A few weeks before my Mum died in July 2023, I picked up a paintbrush for the first time. We did not know she would soon be leaving us or that I would discover how deeply her love for art and painting had run through her whole life. It seems she passed the torch to me as she went. I paint in remembrance of her.

Painting gave me solace over those next few months; hours spent quietly making marks on paper. Watercolours of sadness transitioned to acrylics of vitality, where I have now found my happy place. 

Strong colours, texture and powerful feminine themes inspire me and my work. Each piece has a theme and I want my art to change the way people breathe when they stare at a piece on their wall and consider the message she embodies.

At the same time, over the past four years, my children have struggled with the structured and social elements of school. That is a story for another day. But now, in my fifties, I feel moved to contribute to the transformation of education in a deep way. My mum, was also a teacher.

So, to start this journey, when you buy any original painting here, every penny of profit will be donated to Big Change, a charity working to see a society where every young person is set up to thrive in life, not just exams.

Every print sold enables me to paint more originals.
